James L Knapp was named the new Executive Director of Franciscan Institute Publications, effective Fall 2010. Knapp has extensive publishing experience including senior sales and marketing positions at Meredith Corporation/Better Homes & Gardens, IDG Books, Cowles Creative Publishing, Creative Homeowner and Arcadia Publishing. His mission at Franciscan Institute Publications is to create a sustainable business model and to increase the ability of the press to reach new readers and audiences, especially through digital publishing. The current publishing climate has been very challenging for all publishers, especially those in the academic press arena. At the same time, new and – typically – digital delivery methods give Franciscan Institute Publications an opportunity to grow and prosper as we continue to produce unique and exceptional editorial content.
A native Iowan, Knapp has a Masters, Business Administration from the University of Iowa and did his undergraduate study at St. John’s University, Collegeville, MN.
Effective December, 2010, Jill M. Smith has joined Franciscan Institute Publications as its Business Manager. Her business career has been spent with Northwest Savings Bank where she has held multiple positions from personal banker to branch manager.
Jill has been active with Rotary International, McKean County Habitat for Humanity, LaStella Auxiliary, American Cancer Society and the IAPC Festa Committee.
Jill will be the key point of contact for all business matters related to Franciscan Institute Publications including all orders and subscriptions to journals and books.
Jill is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and lives in Bradford, PA.
Daria Mitchell, OSF, a member of the Sisters of St. Francis, Oldenburg, Indiana, joined the staff of Franciscan Institute Publications in May, 2003. A native of Hamilton, Ohio, Sister Daria holds a B.A. in English from Marian College, Indianapolis, an M.Ed. in Elementary School Administration from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, and an M.A. in Franciscan Studies from St. Bonaventure University. Second only to gaining heaven, Sister’s goal in life is to beat her mother in a game of Scrabble.
